I began using a large format panoramic camera some years ago because I have always been fascinated by the art of the cinematographer and the vision expressed on an elongated movie screen. The use of this format requires a different discipline in composition and framing and necessitates a paring down of the scene that I find exciting. I find that for me a successful image is about what I have excluded as much as what has been recorded.

I still use film, the digital age may never come to this format. I do, however, make use of modern output, first having large drum scans made and then prints through a digital enlarger or printer. This allows me to make large scale prints that add drama and impact to the image.

The prints for the Wind Army series are printed on Epson Premium Lustre paper using K3 Ultrachrome inks. The printer used is an Epson 9800, allowing the size capabilities I need. These modern inks and papers are arguably the equal in tone, depth and archival life as any of the more traditional wet processes.

The images in all of the color series are printed on Fuji Crystal Archive photographic paper, exposed with a Lightjet 5000© digital enlarger. The process produces a traditional fine art photographic print where the image lies in an emulsion and has a richness and depth noticeably different from prints using ink on paper. The archival life of this process is estimated by the Wilhelm Institute at 70 years before any degradation of quality.

The panoramic images are produced in three sizes -

MINI - 15 inch long image on 10x20 inch sheet in editions of 7
MIDI - 30 inch long image on 18x38 inch sheet in editions of 5
MAXI - custom sizing up to 48x96 inches limited to editions of 3

The square image sizes are available upon request.
